Nexon has recently updated Mabinogi to a 64 bit client. This update has broken many mods in memory patchers for the time being. The mod creators are working hard to essentially rebuild all mods from scratch, and this process will take some time. Please be patient, and stay tuned for more updates.

Getting and using the PMG Editor
« on: October 13, 2009, 07:41:18 PM »
This works for both 32bit and 64bit version of windows, as well as for windows 7 and XP

Follow this guide for downloading and running the PMG Editor.

So that no longer is there problems with finding the PMG Editor, and getting it to work, this thread should be pinned

The PMG Editor is the best tool that the NA community, and as far as we know, the KR/TW/JP communities have for editing pmg's without major problems.

The problem is that there is minimal or mostly unhelpful English guides or steps for getting the PMG Editor working.

What's worse, is as far as the public knew, you couldn't have the PMG Editor run on a computer running a 64bit version of Windows, which is becoming an increasing problem as the market is quickly changing to 64bit systems and support for them is rising.

The great thing about Java is that there is versions for most of the current operating systems used today, including Linux and Mac OSX, of course I can't cover using the PMG Editor with those systems because I myself do not have one to test the editor on.

How about we get to getting the PMG Editor and getting it to run.

Mabinogi Underground was the original place to get the translated version of the editor, until some things happened. From then until now myself and other people "in the know" on that forum wouldn't directly give info on exactly how to get the editor, seeing as how it was post here on MabiMods. Now though, I have direct links to a separate host at the bottom of this info post/thread, both on Mabinogi Underground and MabiMods, even though the editor is hosted here.

Get the editor and extract the folder inside to, wherever you like, the desktop is preferred. You will need a program that can open RAR files, suggested program is found at http://www.rarlabs.com although you can use http://7-zip.org if you want. You will also need it to open the majority of files downloaded both on this forum, and other places around the internet.

Now you will need to get the Java Runtime Environment from Sun.

Before beginning the download steps, uninstall any version of the Java Runtime Environment or Java Development Kit, if you do not, you could run into problems later on, for both using the PMG Editor, and for running other Java applications.

Go here for the JRE. Should that link not get you to the page to select the version of the JRE and to download it, then use this link to get to the main page for downloading the JRE as well as some other not relevant files. Click the download button under the header of "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)," make sure not to download the bundles unless you really think you will need the extra stuff for some other project later on. On the download page select the version for "Windows" not the one for "Windows Intel Itanium" or "Windows x64," this is important for both those people running a 32bit version of windows and a 64bit version, both must download the 32bit version of the JRE, doing otherwise will cause problems on both systems. Go ahead and install the JRE, best to install to default location as makes guide easier to follow, if you have space issues on the default drive, you can install the JRE on a different drive, but unless you need to install on another drive, don't change the default folder.

Now, go to the folder you installed the JRE into and go to the jre\bin folder, if installed into the default location, you should be in:
For 32bit versions of windows:
Code: [Select]
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\For 64bit versions of windows:
Code: [Select]
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\Leave these folders open. Open a new window and browse to where you extracted the PMG Editor.
Inside the PMG Editor folder you will find a folder named "Dlls," open this folder and select all the dll's inside. Copy those dll's and paste them into the previously opened folder for the JRE.
You can now close the window for the JRE.

Back inside the PMG Editor folder there will be 2 .bat files. One named "run.bat" and one named "run2.bat"
You can edit either one, but it is suggested to edit the one named "run2.bat" as this one gives errors for missing files. Open "run2.bat" with notepad or other simple text editor, do NOT use Word or Wordpad.
If using a 32bit version of Windows, which you should have established when I had you go to the folder that the JRE was installed to copy all of the following info inside of the code box into "run2.bat" and save.
Code: [Select]
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Djava.util.logging.config.file=logging.properties -cp .;lib/jme.jar;lib/jme-awt.jar;lib/jinput.jar;lib/lwjgl_test.jar;lib/lwjgl_util_applet.jar;lib/lwjgl_util.jar;lib/lwjgl.jar GUIIf using a 64bit version of Windows, copy all of the following info inside of the code box into "run2.bat" and save.
Code: [Select]
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Djava.util.logging.config.file=logging.properties -cp .;lib/jme.jar;lib/jme-awt.jar;lib/jinput.jar;lib/lwjgl_test.jar;lib/lwjgl_util_applet.jar;lib/lwjgl_util.jar;lib/lwjgl.jar GUIThat is, if you installed the JRE into the default folders for your version of windows.
If you decide to edit "run.bat" all you must do is change, in the above codeboxs, to "javaw.exe"
Save the files.

Now double click the bat file you want, if it works, well, go read the stuff in the guide section, if not, post here with info on what is wrong, a screenshot of the error would be a good idea. Make double sure that you have checked and done all steps before posting about an error. I would prefer if people ask for support on Mabinogi Underground as that is my home and where I check most often, although I will still check here and help when I can just the same.

Now for the download links. Megaupload link is on my own account, so unless I decide to screw everyone, they won't ever be removed by me. Tinyupload link stays there for however long they host it.

https://mabimods.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=get541

I don't personally give support for this anymore. If it isn't working for you after doing exactly what I said to do, and not only doing part of it, you are out of luck with me. Too many of you don't understand the basics of using a cmd prompt which is needed to be known. Things don't go into system32, never needed to, that is why I never said to put them there. Be happy there are people here who will help with this guide, but I don't understand why it was made a sticky.

A screenshot would help, if you put the word pause on a new line in the bat file it will allow you to take a screenshot of the cmd window.

I also forgot to edit this post over hear, it was an edit to make the bat files more longer lasting for updates to the jre, I will edit it and then you should try using the new text for the bat.

I run it, I get the GUI window, everything appears to run fine. Thing is, I can't click on anything. I click, nothing happens, nothing moves. It's just a static image of the GUI. The only way I can close it is if I close the diag box.

What is the OS you are using, I have heard of issues on Vista 32bit only. Although I am guessing the W7 32bit has the same issue.

When you drag around the window, does the black preview window "stick" on the program window?

Depends on what you mean, exactly. It doesn't stay there forever like it would with a frozen window and a box ontop of it, but it does leave a little image for a few seconds.

Sounds just like the issue I have heard of before, I haven't used Vista or W7 32bit ever so I haven't had a chance to figure out what causes the issue, it could just be some problem that java has, I would need more info or someone to just mess around before I could even begin to know what is the problem with the system.
Sorry.

Ok, I have a funny question, I can't find ".frm" files which I need to have first in order to open up PMG's?

Quite a bit after you posted, but it is pretty obvious you are missing one important step, moving the dll's to the bin folder of java.

Quote
Now, go to the folder you installed the JRE into and go to the jre\bin folder, if installed into the default location, you should be in:
For 32bit versions of windows:
Code: [Select]
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\
For 64bit versions of windows:
Code: [Select]
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\
Leave these folders open. Open a new window and browse to where you extracted the PMG Editor.
Inside the PMG Editor folder you will find a folder named "Dlls," open this folder and select all the dll's inside. Copy those dll's and paste them into the previously opened folder for the JRE.

Download this and place the dlls from this (it has a folder called dll) and place it in your system32 folder and then hit run (this will open the cmd window and then load the pmg editor)

I'm having the same error as Tisan. Here is the screenshot that I managed to get. The command prompt popped up and disappeared so fast, I could barely get it, but here it is:

Anyone have a fix? ):

P.S.: Btw, I was suppose to download JRE for the platform "Windows" if I'm using Vista x64? And do I have to download the "Windows x32" one along with the "Windows" one, too? Any help appreciated...

you dont run the run2.bat - you run the first one that says just run

Wait, what file are you talking about? This is what is inside the winrar file. Which one do I run? =O

I can't run "run2.bat" or "run.bat"; the command prompt pops up and then immediately closes.

And also, I already opened up run2.bat with notepad and then found the code thing inside, but I have no idea what to do with it. I'm at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" right now, but whenever I click java.exe, the command prompt pops up and then closes again. Here's the pic:

Okay, Tetsu, I hope you can guide me through this...:x Here is what I did, please correct me if I did it wrong :p

1) Downloaded JRE (Version 6.0u something?); Platform: Windows (I have Vistax64, but Yukoshoo said to get Windows)

2) Opened up C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\ and left the window there

3) Downloaded PGM Editor

4) Extracted .dll's to my C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\           (I'm not sure if I should have extracted it to my sys32 folder, I could be wrong on this part)

6) Closed the C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\ window

7) Opened run2.bat on notepad, got the code, right clicked, clicked clopy

Step 8) Here is where I'm stuck, I try to open Java.exe and the command prompt comes up and closes. I'm doing something wrong here...Yukoshoo tells me to run "run2bat", but I can't do that, because when I do, another command prompt pops up and closes real fast.
