What's up with the backround? I see it everywhere. What's the story of it? And how is Twitter different from Facebook, or myspace, or any of that jazz

Twitter is a social network. I like using that background because it makes your avatar to be more attractive than the others, Then people who are just scrolling the screen might stop by to see your tweet and perhaps follow you!
Twitter, Theres a goal for you, Get as many followers as you can! be spontaneous, be creative, be funny, anything.
Twitter is different to facebook, Twitter updates arent the same as facebook status updates... Like... If you put "IM POOING" In facebook prolly you will get 2-4 likes and girls saying "TMI, EWWW, etc." Or simply an ignored comment. Perhaps that in a Tweet may be a little funny because of the twitter "stereotype" like "Im in the bathroom" "Just flushed the bathroom!" "I weight some pounds less after that".
They are different stuffs.

You can just use it to get unstressed like tweeting
"I HATE YOU!"
"Everytime you speak i want to hit you so bad your first born child will be puking unicorns." or something like that to please your needs of saying that.
