Nexon has recently updated Mabinogi to a 64 bit client. This update has broken many mods in memory patchers for the time being. The mod creators are working hard to essentially rebuild all mods from scratch, and this process will take some time. Please be patient, and stay tuned for more updates.

I have major concerns on optimization, even though it's not an issue for me atm.  My main issue, is actually the direction the game is going.  When i first saw mabi, you had to pay to rebirth, do generations, or just to transform.  You were very limited on your character growth if you didn't pay.  Moon gates only opened at night, and had one specific destination,  so you couldn't choose which moon gate you wanted to move to.  There also were no mounts!  It sounds pretty crappy compared to now, i'm sure.  But i enjoyed that the game had emphasis on both strategy and team work.  Yeah,  you could solo ciar, alby, and even rundal.  But most people were actually rather bad at that, so they'd actually sit in the dungeon lobbies and make parties.  Clearing a dungeon without a huge party or lots of death, was a sense of accomplishment.

It was kind of like phantasm is now, but with a better sense of balance.  You didn't have to rank one or two specific skills, just to get through it.  Cheap gimmicks consisted of the enemy having passive defense, or maybe a golem's stomp.  But this was all considered challenging back then, as getting hit by a goblin typically killed you.  And i vaguely recall being proud when i was able to kill a red spider with 2-3 hits of my sword, ie one combo.

Now a days though we have loads of stats, facetank pretty much everything, unbelievably cheap skills for both crowd control and stun locking, and easy access to free nao stones as well as guardian stones.  Even the skills themselves are a joke compared to what you were expected to do back then.  It required effort and you had to plan on what you wanted.


Anyway, enough rambling about that.  That gives you a good enough idea of why i quit mabi.  But that's my reasoning, game's moved on from what i liked.  If you still got things you like in the game, then keep playing and keep using w/e mods make it fun.  Much as i may hate nexon, and not want much to do with mabi anymore, it's still just a game where the point should be to have fun.  I expect that's why most the staff here hangs around, as i know a number of them have no interest in the game anymore as well.

It is a good reason, Fl0rn.

What I like regarding Mabi is that it is not 100% p2w.  Some might argue regarding Reforges, but for me, that's just overkill.  Since you get stats based off on ranking skills you're bound to, at some point, have stats high enough to run missions effectively with standard non-reforged stuff.

People posting videos of them solo-ing the crap out of the content with their over the top reforges are just showoffs, IMO.  But I guess it always happens in online games...even if they were designed as cooperative play.

The only thing I dislike is that sometimes, you ned to farm, farm and farm to make money and buy yourself some fancy outfit (and then the only seller dyed it pure black and wants to charge you an arm and a leg because pure black is 'in')

Reforges aren't needed to "git gud", but they can certainly be OP. I have a shield-less charge reforge on an accessory, which makes Charge more general-purpose as a Human (also great with the buff it got from Renovation).
Then I have a Celtic Guardian Staff and Celtic Tribolt Wand with high Magic Attack reforges that push my Magic Attack to over 500 (barehanded, I'm typically over 300 Magic Attack with a little bit of leveling). So, that's a notable difference due to reforges. But, even so, my magic would still be pretty powerful without the reforges, I'd suppose?

Aside from the "controversial" subject of reforges (I see value in both pro- and anti-reforging)... I genuinely still enjoy playing Mabi. Overall, I'm happy with the direction Mabi has gone; in terms of content, mind you.
Now, if they could fix the technical issues with the game (particularly the aging Pleione engine), I feel that would make the game significantly better. Heck, it might even draw back some estranged players.
Heck, if they could keep all the content the same, but give the game a complete "HD remake", I could that attracting a lot of players, both old and new.

But... fixing the game would be smart. Nexon doesn't do smart.

NGS detected Abyss earlier in the week.  Blade indeed updated it on Jan 3, but then we had maintenance on Wed 4 and so Abyss was detected again.  My only guess is that they did a double update.

Funny though, so far I haven't seen a game breaking mod.  Rather, this is full of gameplay-enhancing mods since Nexon is lazy enough to give us bitmap and smaller fonts.

I started playing Mabi in a very meek way until I installed Abyss.  Then I really started playing...But it just feels so slow and the goshdarned text is annoying.  Warping to the lagfest that is Tara is no fun either.

I know having to replace Abyss each time NGS is updated is a bit of a pain, but I'd say don't stress too much over it. Blade is on top of it, and takes care of it as soon as he can (hey, he's got a life outside of Mabi, ya know :p).
Plus, at least they're not updating NGS daily like they were a couple months ago.

I just got the NGS error.  I hope is an isolated incident, just like Exclamation's yesterday. (It happened to me too, but since I saw his post I just restarted my PC and played like 20 mins before going to sleep, with the error not occurring again, until now)

EDIT: Alright...no further NGS messages, but Mabi is crashing pretty often. (Ugh)

For anyone still encountering NGS problems, I just went through a 2 hour testing phase on and off.

Clean client from Steam - no detection
Client with Tiara/Abyss (installed from Tiara v243 online) - detected within 5 minutes
Client with Tiara/Abyss installed separately - detected within 5 minutes
Client with Abyss only - 30+ minutes no detection

I've tried both .pack and data folder usage through Tiara and tweaking Abyss features. Originally my assumption was something in Abyss causing detection and left Tiara relatively alone. After an hour of playing around with many .ini configurations and old/new versions of the .dlls, results didn't change. Upon removing all mods and restoring my client to a clean copy, I installed Abyss as a standalone nabbed off Blade3575's site. Running flawlessly. I'll likely try tweaking Tiara tomorrow and finding some way to make it happy, hopefully through adding Shaggy's UOTiara .pack. Bedtime.

On another random note, launching Client.exe without any sort of external or modded launcher is how I tested this Abyss config so I'm wondering if LaunchMabiDirect or PowerPatcher are partially to blame.

Any additional testing or results should they change will likely be edited in.

The testing is greatly appreciated.  I will add, that we (staff has supplied info too) have added various insight into the first post.  Some of it is contained in the spoilers.  It is known that launching via power patcher, is detected, while patching via power patcher is just fine.  The way your data folder is read/used is important too.

If you're using methods supplied via first post, and still having trouble, i would recommend shooting data/db first and seeing if a problem still exists.  When it comes to crashing and such, db is one of the biggest issues, so it makes a wonderful starting point if nothing else.

I don't have access to the FTP's for Shaggy's sites as of now, so I can't upload the latest versions of it to them. This will cause old versions to be installed, meaning NGS detection will occur.

Edit: Inspected my account settings on Shosui, the account I first posted in, and found that my email was an incredibly old one, went to change it, and surprise it's registered to this account. Deleted the other so I don't have duplicate, copy/pasta'ing the post.

Edit 2:

Additional testing today concluded that nearly all of Tiara works. One mistake of mine was that running the Tiara standalone install last night, I overlooked removing features.xml.compiled.
Can confirm that running Tiara without including Abyss and AutoBot and throwing the most updated Abyss download from Blade3575's site is working so far. I would imagine AutoBot is fine to install, but I will not be testing this.

When using the installer for UOTiara (243), I get this weird issue where the setup will freeze after being prompted to edit the Abyss.ini and clicking finish. It doesn't hang and the process still runs like normal, but it never actually completes whatever it's doing and terminates like the older installers did. Has anyone else noticed this or experienced it? I can just force-kill it and life is good, all selected mods and features installed so it's just more of an annoyance rather than a major problem.

And yeah Fl0rn, I sifted through all 20 pages of this thread as well as read through some of the Abyss and Tiara threads in order to start my trial-and-error process here. Hopefully some people can find what works for them, but that first post definitely helped with information.

Edit 3:

After playing for roughly 5 hours, my client crashed from a normal Nexon reason and relaunched. Detected after 10 minutes while moving to Belvast. Will update if I can figure out why or it's consistent.

Consistently on, seems like a rogue case of NGS bull after a client crash. Standing by everything working.

Yeah for some reason I had spidy-senses tingling as to checking account details. I made the ultimatum that this account was my original (older creation date) and has the original name that I use for everything. Better to stick to just having one as well, no need for two.
