News

Nexon has recently updated Mabinogi to a 64 bit client. This update has broken many mods in memory patchers for the time being. The mod creators are working hard to essentially rebuild all mods from scratch, and this process will take some time. Please be patient, and stay tuned for more updates.

NGS Issues | PLEASE POST DETAILS HERE |
« on: May 27, 2016, 05:01:24 pm »
This is the place for NGS errors.  PROVIDE US DETAILS!!  Most of the staff are not active players.  If you don't know what details to add, keep reading.

Ye AV was one of my leads, but unfortunately even with it disabled temporarily I was still getting NGSd, so at least in my case that doesn't appear to be the issue. Would love it if it were that simple however XD

Edit: So. A few of my friends found the stupidest solution ever. So after the NGS kick, you get presented with the old numerical userid login screen, which usually results in a server cannot be reached message if you attempt to log in.

As it happens, apparently in the case of NGS it lets you log back in. More so, having logged back in via that login screen, I've been logged in a good 10 minutes without NGS.

Sooooo.... until we have a proper fix I guess we just accept a single NGS in the first 5 mins and then are safe from then on?

Sorry for the mess. This is info i've gathered from others, some is personally tested, but that doesn't mean i haven't made any mistakes in some way, in which case feel free to pitch in and correct me/help.  I may not alter anything based on it, but criticism is welcome.

Primary Problem:
  • You launch mabi, get booted due to mod being detected.

Potential Fixes/Theories

  • Some Data Folder mods appear to be detected below:
(to use such mods or files you will need to have them in a .pack in your package folder using [Guide] Logue's MabiPacker or UO Tiara and deleted from your Data Folder)

  • Currently, it is being reported that the following will trigger NGS within a few minutes of staying on any channel, just by being in the mabinogi directory, and not from even being used.  Some of these may still be iffy, so feel free to provide your own experiences and feedback of course.

When asking for assistance... Please attach this form (may change or be updated) to your posts when posting to assist us in helping you.  Thank you.
(use Copy Ctrl+C and Paste Ctrl+V)

For the sake of space and hopefully user ease of use, i'm putting two spoilers below.  First is mods that are confirmed working, as in not triggering NGS, and the second are things that are confirmed to trigger NGS.  These are susceptible to change at any time though, and i may not remember to update; so if you notice something seems amiss, please do speak up to me or a staff member, whether on site or off site, publicly or privately, it's appreciated to know if we may have overlooked anything.  Bear in mind, details.  If you just come in and say "Abyss broke" or "Playpack triggers NGS" we're likely to play 20 questions with you, and wait for satisfactory responses before we make any changes.  Being thorough in your responses is as helpful as actually responding to being with, sometimes more so.

Disclaimer: Most of the tech support, mod facts, and any of the files you'll get to through this thread are not my work, they're the work of other users.  Show appreciation where appreciation is due, and make sure you show some respect to the various users around here who have contributed in their own various ways.  There are some well known/obvious names, as well as some less obvious ones who have contributed.  Some may not even have a post count on this site, due to contributing solely off-site.  So don't be harsh on someone just because you do not recognize them, and remember we encourage modding here.

Yeah double-post, sorry but i'm gonna do it for this.  I wanna keep the first post more strictly on-topic than anything else so people aren't as likely to shy away from it.  Any edits to the first post will be tracked at the bottom of this post, if you're worried about monitoring changes.

Veteran Tips
This is less 'official' and more about just general advice.  It is worth skimming if you regularly have problems or are generally inexperienced or finding yourself asking questions.  These are not in any specific order.

  • Open your pack files after an update and glance at what all's included.  You don't have to extract things, or know specifically what they changed, but you should at least look at folders and skim the file names.  This will help you familiarize yourself with commonly updated files, help you gain insight into some of nexon's behind the scenes work, and will give a solid foundation for if you actually get into modding beyond just 'placing file a in directory b.'

  • Following up the previous tip, more advanced, you may wish to pay close attention and learn what files from the db directory are commonly updated and can be an issue, as well as the xml directory.  These can break parts of the game or straight up crash you when updated, and they are updated with great frequency.

  • Before you ask questions, consider what it is you think could be helpful to us in answering said questions.  One of the biggest frustrations can be trying to quickly solve a problem but not getting help fast enough to suit you, or having to wait till another day cuz rl prevents you from doing much.  So if you're gonna ask a question, let us know what the problem is, what you were doing leading up to the problem, and any mods or other information you may think are related to the problem.  Bear in mind your tone, or manner you present your information in, will affect how people treat you when they respond, i would advise against an accusatory tone, as in saying someone's mod is a problem without having 90%+ certainty.

  • System cleanup, system settings, and anti-virus.  Make sure you regularly clean your system, this is anything from junk file clean-up, to disk defrag, registry checks, and more.  You need to understand how to take care of your system if you want good performance, you can ask for advice or tips if you wanna see if people wanna suggest their commonly used programs/methods for accomplishing this on their pc.  System settings, and anti-virus kind of go hand-in-hand here too.  Do your best to configure them to suit your needs.  Not everyone needs the same settings or background processes, like i won't have print spooler on and this can be a big thing for some, but others will need this to be on.  So make sure you don't just follow some generic guide without knowing what you're messing with at least, otherwise you may find yourself sorely lacking something you needed, with no clue how to fix it.

  • GUIDES!  There are plenty out there, yes some are dated and may no longer apply, but you can still learn a lot and there will still be much to apply.  MTU and Nagle are discussed in numerous places.  These deal with registry entries, you screw up your registry you won't even be able to boot your computer.  Don't let fear stop you from learning and then doing testing with proper knowledge applied.  After all, if you don't keep your computer ventilated, you'll kill it, doesn't mean you stop using your computer, does it?

  • READ!  May be time consuming to do sometimes, but please do some reading before inserting your opinion on a topic, or before asking a question.  We all space it sometimes, or have to deal with so much stuff you don't always have time to read up and such, but you need to make an effort to amass some knowledge before leaping in head first into anything.  It saves a lot of frustration and angry people, when you've made at least some effort to know what you're talking about.

This is looking really nice, good job Fl0rn. On the NGS dection part could add a pic of the detection, visuals are nice but only optional.
Also mention it's dinput8.dll is the file that was confirmed to be detected by NGS(Shaggy have pointed this out many times).

I'll be blunt, short of a mod editing it in i probably won't do that.   I intentionally tossed up a link to abyss thread, cuz i'd much rather people read abyss, and know what is currently in it and what you should/shouldn't do.  As for the specific file, dinput, being the problem, it would be removed by followed the instructions in the abyss thread. (confiremd this already)  I don't mind helping now and then, but i don't want to baby people who aren't making a decent effort.

The NGS detection, i assume you mean that message about a security threat being detected or something.  I saw a screenshot of that error, but as i don't play, mabi's not even updated, i'd have to go update and intentionally trigger it if i don't wanna pull someone else's screenshot.

Thanks for the feedback.

Understandable. The community has a lot of guides and instructions and are there to help answer FAQ yet being overlooked. I do admit to keep answering these questions even when all I could just direct them is read the guides or made some efforts to do it themselves.
Guess the reason is the difference between reading and understanding. Even if they have read the guides and instructions a lot just doesn't seem to understand the guide/instructions even in simple words. We all have different minds, but that's just me saying.

I was going to start bring posts here of importance to the topic.  But Fl0rn's done such a great job on this thread, that unless I'm missing some posts somewhere, Fl0rn's version of them seems to be the best one.

Would you guys find it helpful to have them brought in anyways? Or just stick with Fl0rn's nice summary of them all?

Florn covered everything except for all the things we don't know NGS detects, so obviously as those things get discovered they can be placed here, like for most CE isn't flagged and then until recently MabiCommerce 2 was flagged, but Xcelled194 recently added a "confuser" to prevent detection, renaming the files doesn't work with all of them.

Do you have other mods other than data folders?

If the discussion of the problems stay in one thread, i'm personally fine as is.  My only real concern was having information all in one thread, so people wouldn't have to try to sift through 20 pages of various threads to find what MAY be a problem, but it's not guaranteed.  Cuz i can see why people would give up trying to figure it out when that happens.

If you want people to have more recognition, or they want more recognition, can migrate the posts here, or quote it into OP... just kinda w/e seems fitting.

I'll edit in the bit about closing NGS may prevent detection of datapacker, but that it needs more testing.

Just started getting booted like crazy, recently. Even with the NGS process killed, no data packer, no data folder mods, no cheat engine, and no remnants of Hackshield. Anyone else? What's weird is that my other clients haven't been booted... but the difference is that I had to reload my main one, because it crashed some time after this morning's maintenance (could mean something, I don't know  :-\). Should I try reinstalling Abyss, like stated in the OP? Also, what is the name of the BlackCipher process? I couldn't find it  ???...

Edit: I'm silly. I thought I deleted my data folder, but I didn't... I only removed the mods. I'll do that now and report if it makes a difference or not! Also, FYI, I use Abyss and Poison Pack.

Edit 2: Okay so, after doing that, my client would crash after pleione engine finished loading. I decided to check if I really did remove my data folder mods, like I thought I did, and it turns out I didn't (facepalm) so I restored data packer, removed the mods (the 2016 Copper Cat Marble mod, if you were wondering), and deleted it again. I'm no longer crashing after pleione engine. More soon, and sorry to those that facepalmed so hard from reading this, their skull cracked  ;)

Edit 3: Still got booted. Doing some trial and error now.

I've been playing without mods for a little while but it appears the nexon launcher put out an update some time after the patch, guessing a lazily using that to force a client update they forgot?

but maybe there is some remnant I used the same mods last I used them

Started crashing(getting that annoying ngs threat message) today so I did some troubleshooting with a clean client. Here is what I found out.

Running clean client = works
Running client with Abyss  = kick
Running client with Tiara files packed(via "DATA Packer") = kick
Running a client with custom .pack = kick sorry, it works
Killing the BlackCipher.aes process in anyway = kick

Can anyone else confirm?

Same thing happens with me. I notice that I get kicked ~3 minutes and 30 seconds after logging into a character. I close BlackCipher, still get kicked. I even tried messing with NGS at the beginning when the client is being launched, still doesn't change anything for me.

On a side note, I'd like to ask if anyone knows why I can't launch the client normally. I have to use a direct launcher to launch Mabi. ;-; Got rid of all past dinput8.dlls, anything related to CrackShield and Data mods, still don't get it.

Plone doesn't really upkeep any of the mods for sharker, and she never even actually made the FOV one in the first place.

Would you like to clear that up?  Cuz the way i'm reading it, you said you tried a custom.pack and it kicked you.  Then you tried again after seeing stoopidpeople's post and it worked?

That whole fit where it lets you update via launcher, but the button to start the game never lights up?  If that's what you're experiencing, i've had that off and on over the years.  I don't know what causes it or if there's an actual fix, it just randomly seems to crop up and go away when i play.

i know making language.pack read-only make's the start button grey out every time, so it's usually a problem that is preventing it from patching or checking patch server, or having access to files being checked, updated or deleted first like it does with language.pack each time.
using a third party patcher like power patcher 2.0 avoids this and allows you to run custom .packs set as read-only and even a custom language.pack set to read-only
uo tiara installs both power patcher 2.0 and mabipacker and launches uotiarapack.bat to make your data folder into \package\ uotiara.pack and language.pack and if you run into any problems you can do it manually with this guide. [Guide] Logue's MabiPacker

I tried running client using custom .pack earlier and was kicked. Most likely because of an error on my part. Anyways when he brought it to my attention I tested it again and it worked just fine for me.
