Mabinogi and Windows 10

So with the official release of Windows 10, and Nexon's statement (http://mabinogi.nexon.net/News/Announcements/1/00Ifc) I decided we could use a thread to talk about how the game runs on Windows 10, for those interested in upgrading to the new OS, but worried about compatibility issues.

The short version is, sadly, it doesn't work, at all.  You can log into your account, but that's, the moment you hit login, it's dead.

The long version, is people have been using Windows 10 for a long time now (I've had it for nearly 2 years or so? Too lazy to check dates) and have found some issues, and some fixes to them as well.

The biggest one, being that you can sacrifice Vindictus to allow Mabinogi to function.
Launch Vindictus as you would normally on Windows 10, and soon enough, it'll die a horrible death, and lock the process forever.  You cannot end the process via task manager, or any other means. 
However, having this process in such a state, will allow Mabinogi to function.

What happens is hackshield, as I'm sure you've noticed, breaks everything horribly.

However, if you then launch another Nexon game, it'll work.
Thus, the game you want to play will be played second.

And, that process you can't get rid of, you need to reboot your PC to get rid of it, but as long as it's there, you can freely play any game except the game you crashed.

1) Reboot your PC. (Important!)
2) Launch Vindictus, and be ready to crash it.
3) After the splash screen goes away, and the game itself finally launches, rapidly click spam the game (note, run in windowed mode) it will quickly stop responding.
4) Click the X on Vindictus, it will say not responding, do you wish to wait or close.  Close it.
5) Launch crackshield.
6) Launch mabi through whatever method you use, personally I vary between direct launch shortcut, and mabinogi.exe

Further testing shows that the game does not NEED to crash to continue on with mabi. Crashing it does seem far easier... But not required.

Having tested it on both pre-release and official copies of Windows 10, offering a sacrifice to the gaming gods will work to get mabi running.

Im using Windows 10 Home and i cant get on mabi as soon as i press game start hackshield load then nothing happen but yes it is stuck in the task manager and cant get rid of it unless i restart my computer.

But unlike you. Vindictus lunch fine and i was able to play it for 30 minute withou any bug so your trick doesnt work..waste of 10 gb download lol

Restart your PC, then run Vindictus first.

Okay will do that thanks, i think it might have worked cause i was able to log on mabinogi. No wonder if that is why but thank you, at least i'll be able to log in until they fix it

A person posted a pic in a group saying he's doing fine in Mabi with Windows 10 as he is online. The pic is 2 hours old so I have yet to hear him say there's a problem yet. Still heavily advise to wait a bit longer for further confirmation.

I've been on mabi with Windows 10 for about 8 months now maybe?
There's been various issues along the way, but now we're just down to this one issue.  To the extent of my knowledge.

But please let me know if you hear of any issues! I want to try and get any and all problems into one thread so we can get things running.

Would just like to point out that it is not any Nexon game, at least for me. Dragon Nest and Maplestory both run fine (and by run fine, I mean you can at least get into the game, I have no idea if they later crash). Downloading Vindictus now, in hopes that it might be sacrificed.

Sometimes the games won't do it on their own, and need a little help.

For example, with Vindictus, when you first load up the game it may often times stop responding for a bit, then come back a minute later, with more progress in loading the bar, or whatever it may have been doing.
During this time, clicking the X, or just click spamming it in general will bring up the "window has stopped responding, what do yo want to do?" pop up, which you can then use to close the program and kill it off. 

This does not keep the frozen process, but it does still allow Mabinogi to run.
Dragons Nest works the same way, but seems more stable than Vindictus, from the instant death of hackshield issue that Mabinogi sees... Although it does still happen... Rarely.

I do not and will not play Maple Story so... If I can get someone to TRY and break it for me, and it still won't, I can add a note here saying you'll need another game.

I've been playing mabinogi on windows 10 for about 3 months now without vindictus.
If u use abyss/crackshield, u can keep on trying different complatibility settings / turning antivirus off etc until you can get it to run, once i got crackshield to boot once, I never had any problems with it any more.

You could always go back to Windows 8.1 till Nexon makes it compatible.

Personally I like W10. Just a option for the people who NEED to play mabi and don't want to use the Vindictus method. Plus, I don't think nexon is going to make a compatibility patch soon

Mabi has been a broken game for some time now, you can't fix it.

I only just got back on July 19th, so I've missed most of the crap they've done.  But I've heard horror stories over the years.

I took a break before they introduced Renovation. Ruairi was horrible at the time, mostly everyone had Pake, servers were dead even at night time. Thought of switching to Alexina they seem to have mos of the players.

Also, I remember when the pake and server crashing outbreak first began... and my name got thrown all over the official Nexon forums, and took the blame for it all lol...
Of course, I had to make an account there with the same name, and troll as hard as I possibly could...

I still play Ruairi, its okay. lol those times were hilarious people used to get so butt hurt, but watching the trolling was the best part. You didn't get your acc banned right?

However one day I checked just for the sheer giggles of it... and somehow was no longer banned?

I remember it being a permanent ban, so I don't know what's up with that, but I ain't complaining.

Not to sure about the "renovation" of their ban system because one of my accounts is still banned but that's good to hear though.

Also, is there anyway I could change my account name or would that require me to make a new account?

That's the one part of someone's profile I cannot modify.  The admins however, can. I don't know if they would, though.

You got my hopes up. All my accounts are still banned.

Nexon probably unbanned you because they thought you were not guilty. Who cares though, as long as your main is unbanned.
