Finally got to my PC.  Confirming for everyone Abyss works fine.  Tiara will crash your game.
Tiara is easily fixable, see guides and info elsewhere on this site.  Or wait for an update.

After a few guess-an-check testing, I've determined that the problem file for me was race.xml from my data folder. I suspect people who edited their race.xml file to collect marbles will crash because of this.

Could there be a possible issue with itemdb.xml as well? Abyss was working perfectly for me until I did a stupid and tried to open the new Alban Training Camp Box (the one that looks like Admiral Owen Box); this led to the client crashing. Since then, either with Abyss or clean mode, I've been unable to successfully login with that specific toon. All other toons, I can login on fine though.

The specified toon is also a Giant, though I'm not sure if that'll have any correlation. I could really use a few tips on what to do before I start messing with data folder files. Thank you.

Whenever there's a client update, look in the new .pack file to see which files were changed, and redo any mods that use those files with the new versions.

Your db folder tends to be the place you'll want to look at first.

Thank you for this. Upon closer look at the data folder, many of the files were still outdated. I've used Frontend's Data Folder Repair option as well as the Download Clean DLLs option to update these data folder as well as Mabinogi folder files. I'll post again once the game is up with a status update.

EDIT: Game is working fine after Data Folder Repair and Download Clean DLLs functions. Thanks for the advice.

I was wondering if anyone else keeps being redirected to a hosting message screen when trying to download th  abyss.rar file.

I was trying to reinstall tiara (since I messed up the update and had to do a clean game install), but abyss wouldn't install at all. In the second run I noticed it didn't even download, so I went and looked for the link in this post to download and install separately. Blade's host is giving me a "upgrade your service" message, and shaggy's mirror (and website in general) has been down for a while.

Am I the only one being redirected? Is the host dead? Are there any other mirrors?

Any changes to the XML files in the \db folder will cause crashes after a game update if said XML file has been updated. 206_to_207 includes an updated race.xml, amongst other files. Since the XMLs define the actual properties of nearly everything in the game, an outdated XML file will cause your client to crash because it won't know how to handle something new. Race.xml in particular is a big one because it's updated every time there's a new pet, monster, etc.

There's also XML files in \material\_define, so changes to those can also cause issues.

There was one other place not mentioned, but Blade has stated not to release it anywhere without his say so, and it was promptly removed.
But you can just get it from a friend, still.

That's the problem with free hosting. If I get donated $180 I'll get a paid hosting package, but until then this will end up being a problem from time to time.

For some reason my game will freeze and hit ~20mb ram usage on boss cutscenes and I have to force-close the client. I don't have any data folder/tiara/.pack mods, only abyss. Also, I'm running windows 8.1. Any ideas? Abyss is the only modifications I'm using.

This is actually due to CrackShield, not Abyss. It's popped up a couple times before.

Something changed in WER in Windows 8, which is why it doesn't affect Windows 7. Maybe with Windows 10 soon available to public, WER will be changed again and it won't affect Mabi in Windows 10? Just some hopeful thinking...

Odd, i wasn't sure if it was that or not because my girlfriend will be running the same dungeon with the same version of abyss and also on W8.1 and she doesn't crash.

Is there any way to block WER from having a fit?

It's not a constant behavior. I believe that (and I may be completely wrong on this), it depends on how long it takes Windows to create an error dump... if it does at all.

As for blocking it... could try disabling it? I haven't tried this yet, so can't vouch for it.

I'll try this and return with the results.
