Nexon has recently updated Mabinogi to a 64 bit client. This update has broken many mods in memory patchers for the time being. The mod creators are working hard to essentially rebuild all mods from scratch, and this process will take some time. Please be patient, and stay tuned for more updates.

Is there a way to have the new stuff translated? Or do we have to wait until Abyss is updated? Sorry for asking a dumb question.

Abyss... has nothing to do with things being untranslated.

Ah thank you for informing me. I have untranslated things like a potion from the ninja event and I'm afraid to use it and waste it.

I have an enhanced texturepack that increases the resolution by x16, I use ENB to add blur with added Depth of Field, SweetFX to fix the colors and add more to the palette, also to darken some. With a specific mod to increase my FoV. With a lot of other extra additives in my package folder.

I wouldn't dismiss it as 'not abyss' so quickly.  I tried last night with abyss, kept getting random crashes.  No hshield or error, just instant close.  Turned abyss off, did all my daily quests and some bandit hunting, 2 crashes which i experience now and then pre-update with abyss.  Talking to the teleport mage in shylien, and using a mana tunnel.  Odd times to crash, but it happened before the updated now and then, so they're no real surprise.  Did daily SMs today so far, no crashing.  Bout to log in again to do some more daily stuff. 

But overall, i'm not having nearly as much trouble as i did with abyss.  I talked to a friend in game, he's running abyss without any issues at all.  His only problem was the productiondb file, someone mentioned before.

I believe abyss had issues with different OS in the past, i'm wondering if these issues don't stem from that?

Problem: Game crashes when you start it up but loads just fine with a clean ijl.dll (or even worked before and now suddenly crashes)
Possible Solution: Disable your Windows Defender/Microsoft Security Essentials and try running the game. (you can turn it back on later or it just won't need to be turned off anymore later)

Also if you don't already have them and whether or not they make a difference, have the 3 things that you could find in the uotiara thread installed if you don't. (the dotnetfx and both the vcredist if you don't want to download the offline installers)

There might be some error window that might popup even though the game can run and still play fine with it.

side note don't think abyss is involved with random during game crashing since people I know that play clean are also getting crashed during these ninja times.

and that you have removed any data folder mods using data packer.

I'm using the latest version of abyss and am having no issues, nor am I having any with mod sharker.

Chances are it's your data folder causing issues, and Tiara has not been updated yet.

Unless you feel like tearing apart 188_189.pack and figuring out which files in it conflict with Tiara, and removing/updating those files from your data folder yourself, not using it would be the best solution until Tiara has been updated.

The line should be the same as the one in the code box in Chocobubba's reply, save the .ini file with the line changed to 0 then start up Mabinogi.

Do you have a data folder in the same place as Abyss.ini?  If so is there stuff in there?  Then you have, or have had in the past, data folder mods like Tiara, which Abyss is set to apply by default.  That's why you're being told to disable your data folder mods.

One final update, for now at least.
The self-terminating process persisted this morning. Older versions of Abyss were still functioning properly, even when combined with Tiara (an older version as well.) I checked over on the Tiara page and it seems like people were having crashing issues, but not like this.

In case anyone comes here looking for help for a similar issue, what I had to do was use Datapacker to enable my data folder. It took slightly longer to start up as opposed to pre-Ninja update, but it's working well so far. I'll remain hopeful, since even unmodded clients are still experiencing crashes.

After months of splitting hairs and cracking skulls, I finally got abyss to run. Turns out windows defender was the one blocking launch exe. To whoever suggested it, thank you so much T_T

Sound inexperienced, so please don't take any of this the wrong way.

Yes, the datafolder=1 means that abyss is pulling from data folder.

For .ini files, then anything ending in =0 means off or not working, while =1 would mean it is on or working.  There's always a keyword in front of the = sign, sometimes it's descriptive enough, other times it's not.  Usually, not always, a description itself is supplied with the keyword=1 or w/e though.  So basically just read what the feature does, and assign it to 1 or 0 appropriately, on whether you want it on or not.

Somewhat related, some of the wording for descriptions is confusing.  So don't feel bad about asking with some of the stuff just for clarification.  Same for modding in general.  Just try to remember, or ask for more clarification and such if the response is confusing as that'll make remembering easier.

So I tried to update hackshield today and got this..

Odd considering it was just fine this morning/last night. I don't think it's Abyss but would anyone happen to know off hand what would cause this? Crackshield wont load either. I vaguely remember having this issue a month or two ago but I can't remember what I did to fix it lol. Everything is up to date and all that, theres no reason Abyss shouldn't work fine if I can get Crackshield to behave.

Anyway, thanks if anyone can assist.

hai this is first time i post here i always use abyss but for some reason it dosent work anymore, it dosent start the client when i clic star game nothing shows :s  if i remove abyss mabinogi just works fine

The problem is, it has never happened to me so I haven't been able to debug the process to find out where it's crashing. More debug messages wouldn't really help all that much. I could add some saying when it's entering and exiting certain portions of the program but it wouldn't do much good if I can't debug it to begin with. Sorry.

I let two weeks go by so I could try to cool down and look at the problem more clearly, but I still can't get it to work. I really wish I was having a known issue with a rumored fix like the other people who posted here. To tell the story again, I'm just installing Abyss, not Tiara, and I've disabled data folder read, disabled extra thread option, disabled windows defender/security essentials, and installed all .NET frameworks or VC++ redistributables. There really doesn't seem to be any issue with the files themselves because on this exact same machine I'm able to run the client.exe from my current operating system using the installation of Mabinogi+Abyss on both my old hard drive and my new one, but I'm not able to run either installation using my new operating system.

I'm thinking it must be some kind of problem in the operating system environment. As a programmer, I've previously installed tons of languages, development kits, and libraries that all would have affected my system variables, path, and registry over the last 2 years I've been using this OS. Last time I did a fresh install of Mabinogi was for the Aces: Merlin patch because my packages start with 173_full.pack. Aside from some part of my history allowing me to run the game, maybe there is some new backdoor installation crap that Nexon could have included with the 183 installer which I am using to install the game.

I wanted to be sure that this is not some isolated case that I am having on my PC hardware, so now I tried installing the game on one of my old PCs which I've been using as a Steam Box (Steam in-home streaming). This old PC has been working great for me for over 6 months and I never installed any games on it (because I do nothing but stream to it). On this PC with a new installation of Mabinogi and Abyss, I still can't get it to work.

FML, I can't get it to work when I have usually been impervious to the same pitfalls that other people fall into. I know you don't owe it to me to fix this issue, but I'm almost 100% positive that given the same circumstances you could recreate this issue: installing a new Windows 7, getting all of the updates from Windows Update, installing Mabinogi from the v183 installer, then installing Abyss. I want to suggest that maybe you can do this on a virtual machine, but an installation of Windows 7 with all the updates takes 30 gigabytes of hard drive space. You'd have to allocate 50+ gigabytes just to try this out and there's not even any guarantee that VMWare or whatever can run the game to begin with (without mods).

I don't even know what to do at this point, I've become completely dependent on Abyss patcher for multi-client support, it's been very convenient for moving items back and forth with my mule. darn these Nexon NA pricks for not enabling multi-client support. I heard the Korean client already got multi-client support over a year ago, but we get no such luxury. The last thing I'll do I'll uninstall my installation of Mabinogi on my old operating system old hard drive, and then reinstall using the v183 installer and run with regular hackshield to see if it really was some backdoor thing given by the new installer.

Play game Vanilla, with HS and NG on.
Quit after playing once
Install Abyss
