Well, I decided to make Playtime happy and put Win7 back on this computer instead of Win8.1 and I'm back to not being able to use Abyss.

Client exits at this point. This is with the default abyss.ini file. After trying to launch a couple of times, it doesn't seem to make it as far as the log always stops here instead:

I just tried doing a clean re-install. Mabi works fine, then I install UoT and abyss craps the bed. Didn't even try adding PowerPatcher into this mix this time, just a plain UoT install with abyss, no sharker either.

I'll give rebooting a try here and then I think I'm done for a while and just going to suffer through with just data packer.

It seems like you're having the same problem I did, but somehow fixed it, here's the steps I did.

Open your CMD and type this in "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff" (without quotation marks) can always be reverted by changing it to "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn"

Download and use the mabi directlaunch.

Turn off UAC for your account on windows.

That's what I did and it seems to have worked, have not ran into any other problems since then.

Edit: Don't forget to restart your computer too.

It seems like you're having the same problem I did, but somehow fixed it, here's the steps I did.

Actually, I didn't have to do any of that. I did the reboot I was said I was going to do, and when it came back up, I had no internet. Was kind of odd since the local network was working and I could ping around inside. I couldn't get the internet back even after another reboot. Then I went and discovered my AD/DNS server had a hard drive die on it, (I really should bring in a backup AD/DNS, a virtual one at the least) so I shut it down and replaced the hard drive and then started re-syncing the mirror. Came back up to my desktop and still had no internet. (Odd thing was, I was getting name resolution, but my PC just immediately said destination unreachable when pinging.) Another reboot fixed my network issues and I discovered Mabi was working correctly. So I don't know if I just needed a reboot after installing some stuff or if the network acting wonky was the cause. In any case, I am back up and running with my mods. Sorry for not getting back sooner to say so.

Though you did just remind me that I need to re-disable nagle on this computer again since I reinstalled Windows.

Just an update, rebooted my PC after losing internet activity again and abyss stopped working again. Tried copying my files from my laptop which did have mods working last time I used it, but it was on version 177 or something, forget exactly. Abyss still wouldn't work on my PC so I updated my laptop (which Playtime, is also a Win 7 install as 8 didn't support it well :p) to 183 and tried there and Abyss craps out on it too. Luckily my Win 8.1 PC at work is still happily running mods, so I copied the files from there and tried again. Still didn't work when launching client.exe but out of randomness, I tried launching mabinogi.exe and it loaded. I don't have power patcher running on my home PC right now and may try it later, but for right now, I don't want to disrupt whatever it is I got going for me in getting it working like this. Lol

Shouldn't hurt or help maybe. If I'm having issues with direct launching client.exe, power patcher may or may not have those issues as well. I haven't had a chance to test yet.

using mabinogi.exe, direct launching client.exe with a user created shortcut, the one uo tiara creates, power patcher or the proffessor's frontend/nova and even using nexon's website to launch the game also doesn't affect wither Abyss is going to work or not. (Abyss still gets launched the same way at the same time regardless)

just trying to limit the amount of time you waste on testing to find out the cause, but i know it's none of the above mentioned, and if any of the above did help; it would only be because it inadvertently solved your problem by it just performing it's actions, none of which are aimed at solving Abyss's issues for some people on some os's.

so it would be more important to find out how it specifically solved your problem by accident, so that we could provide better tech support in the future.

I did put power patcher back in and it is still working, so I really have no idea what the issue I had was, or what it was that fixed it. The version of Abyss that I copied from my work PC is the same version that was on my PC at home. Don't know why it started working once I copied it.

Only issue I have now is it opens mabi in a full height window that is only like 100 wide or so. I'm at the beach, so not positive the exact width, shrink it as narrow as it goes and that's how wide it is when you open it. I'm guessing that nothing I do will fix that and it's something weird with Mabi's code when telling it to run on the 2nd video card that's running the 2nd monitor. Simple enough to stretch it out, so it's merely annoying and not a huge issue.

Try looking in this portion of your abyss INI, it's almost all the way near the bottom. It might be set to open in a window that size for some reason, or, you can try setting it to the correct resolution.

I think i have that currently disabled. I had it set for 1260x963 (or whatever the full height minus the taskbar is) but it never worked for me so I turned it back off.

Could always try the ResizeLock portion of abyss, for me it maximizes the window and then sets it so that it can't be resized.

I had random glitches with that where it would launch full screen and then I couldn't get back to window mode.

I don't recall seeing that one. If I can get that working in conjunction with the window size setting, that would be ideal. I don't actually want it full width. I usually run 2 instances of Mabi (Rurari and Mari) on my PC and like leaving a bit of space so I can click switch between them. Gets awkward when I go 3 clients on my PC, but I've been trying to farm off my shop alt to my work PC. I really need to set up a VM server at home one of these days for stuff like that. Lol

To check in on my Mabi as I'm away I personally use TeamViewer and whenever I want to check my shop or how my gathering bot or whatever is doing so far I simply hop on for a few minutes, check, and go on my way.

I use a combination of VNC and RDP. But it would be nice to not have it running constantly on my work PC. Would like to log off now and then instead of locking it. We have a VM server at work, but I think it might be suspicious if I set up a VM there just for Mabi... It's nice having my shop on my work network though as it usually derps a lot less than my home one does.

I found out my problem, Extra threads was not working. So, if your client isn't starting after the initiation of mabinogi.exe or the direct launcher try setting ExtraThreads to 0.

This worked for me. Thank you!
