Wanted to touch on the 'help or don't help' thing, i rambled though. No hard feelings if ignored.
Situational, if you know the person/situation that they are posting out of or just have an insightful guess.
I know some people come on and post while at work. I've responded to a post or two like this, and while the poster didn't come out and say it till a few hours, or sometimes days, later, the content in the post gave a rushed impression leading me personally to be a bit more lenient till i heard back from the poster. I may point the person in the right direction, but i try not to straight out hand them the answer until i get a reasonable response back because i can only guess at why the contents of their post are lacking.
As for directing people to read the guides, yeah i do approve of a player learning the basics of modding if they're going to ask questions. Simply data folder edits, knowing/finding out what goes where, and seeing if a mabinogi update has rendered one of your mods obsolete. Don't have to be able to update the mods yourself, but i feel the other mentioned items all consist of basics if you want to mod. Otherwise you should have one person or a specific group of people, who would be willing to dedicate their time to help you.
That said, i think finding the right guide can be frustrating, because it has to suit the individual's needs as well as being an up to date guide. Videos, images, or just straight text and some links. While i don't know what exists for mabinogi specifically, there are a variety of guides that exist out there, and you need one that works best for you. I, for example, would much prefer a simple text guide with pictures here and there for the majority of computer stuff. Videos take too long, and sometimes pictures are faster than trying to spell out some of the seemingly simple things.
Had to clean the CD lens on an old X-Box the other day, and i had never opened one up before. Something like that i'd rather a video guide, because i can find videos with multiple angles on the X-Box and components, which was essential for me in learning and feeling confident in what i was doing.
So, before you're too quick to judge, i'd recommend practicing your empathy and insight, as even if your stance don't change, it can make a big difference in how you come across.
