I'm getting a bit of a migraine from font issues. As we all know by now, vector fonts like BusAccident! and Mabi's default font are very laggy when you have stuff like the character window or the message log loading up, and using bitmap fonts fixes that little issue. My problem is that I
can't stand the bitmap fonts available to me. Frontend offers three different bitmap fonts, one of which is way too small and just bugs me in general, a bold version which is almost unreadable, and "Fritz Quadrata", which is a little bit better than the others but is still blurry and occasionally runs into itself. Sticking with the default font and enabling bitmaps with Abyss just turns it into the first bitmap font from Frontend.
I've tried adding in a font manually (specifically
Free Pixel renamed to "alphanumeric.ttf" in data/gfx/font), but when packed it acts as if I did nothing. Loading the game presents the default font, and enabling bitmaps before or after loading the client just changes it to the same old bitmap font from Frontend.
Frankly, I like Mabi's default font. I just hate the way it lags. Is there something I can do to get a readable font that doesn't lag up, or am I just screwed?
(For the record, I figured it was okay to post this here because Abyss not letting me use my own fonts is pretty much the issue here)
Edit: Oh, another note. I don't know if this is intentional, but enabling the bitmap positioning fix also enables the bitmap fonts themselves... So if you turn that on, but leave bitmap fonts off, you still get the bitmap font.
