Nexon has recently updated Mabinogi to a 64 bit client. This update has broken many mods in memory patchers for the time being. The mod creators are working hard to essentially rebuild all mods from scratch, and this process will take some time. Please be patient, and stay tuned for more updates.

Hey Shaggy.
I've compressed the maps, and did a little extra for even smaller sizes.
The bigger maps have a lot of blank transparency, so I cropped them in proportion before compressing.
I don't know enough of the technical detail to know if this causes a problem, but it doesn't seem to cause any issues.
The cropping on the larger maps increased compression from 75% to 90%.
Regardless, I also compressed as-is, and included it in the "...\safe" directory, in case there's any trouble.

The smaller files didn't have this white space issue, so I didn't crop them, and I doubt they needed compression, but I compressed them anyway.

Tell me if I've done anything wrong.

I tried out your compressed world maps, and they don't seem to actually make that much of a difference. Here are the numbers that I have though
Note: I only tested this while in Iria, using mana tunnels.

No mod: Every region aside from Courcle were at constant 16fps, Courcle: 2fps

NOT "safe" compressed files: almost the same as no mod, 2fps on Courcle, but I got 17 on Zardine and Rano, no change on Physis nor on Connous.

"Safe" compressed files: This seemed to slightly lessen performance on other regions, Courcle still 2fps, Zardine 15fps, Rano 13fps, Connous went up to 17-18fps, no change on Physis.

Tunnels I used per region:
Rano: Just ouside of Qilla Base
Connous: Oasis tunnel
Physis: Vales tunnel
Zardine: Southwest of Raspa volcano (site of Saga ep 7 start)
Courcle: Tree mark tunnel

Well, I shrunk the size. They weren't especially huge to begin with.
I think the problem is with the function that calls for the placement of the markers on the map, rather than the map itself.
This is as much as I know to do :(

unfortunately the maps are not the cause, to your 'optimization' for having a gaming pc; its either your memory that is low, cpu or your video card was meant for gaming back in the day, but isn't now, so without knowing your specs or wither your drivers are updated i can't tell you why your fps is so low, but you can also try mod_sharker's HorribleGraphicsTest=1 it pretty much makes the game look like crap but should speed things up maybe a few more fps for you.

fps constantly changes on various variables and the amount your talking about with mod, safe or unsafe versus no mod is clear that the maps are having no effect for you.

thanks, i'll check them out myself later today to see wither they are mod worthy.
and yea that is the problem because you can view the map from any where and click left or right buttons to see the different map regions without lag; however their isn't much we can do about the function so i figured compressing the map was one of the only things too try.

Mabi must be one hell of a modern game for it to keep my CPU at 50% load the whole time. And yes, I do keep up with driver updates, so much so that I've had a fair amount of headaches because a) those drivers were poorly implemented b)needed beta because said "full" release was crap.

I honestly don't get this game.

The Pleione engine was just poorly made to begin with. It wasn't designed with larger regions in mind. I have a sneaking suspicion that Nexon/devCAT did not expect Mabinogi to be so popular and successful, and didn't develop it with long-term goals in mind. Newer games run a lot better than Mabi does, and having higher-end hardware doesn't help much (plus, the game client is still a 32-bit application, so it can't really make use of more than... 3.3GB of RAM?).

The best we can do, with mods, is make some of the larger regions consume less memory (particularly Tara, Zardine, and Courcle).

Part of the reason Mabi performs so much worse than newer games on the same hardware is that it can't actually USE the new features of the new hardware because it's written using old stuff.

I talked a lot about this concept and how it affects games (both old and new) here.

After the last update I had been playing with this tiara just fine. No problems at all. Nexon did a "server restart" last night, and now I crash if my mods are on. Any ideas?

I was able to log on and play as normal with this Tiara just fine.

Edit: Although it does take a disgustingly long amount of time lo log out back to the character select screen. Several minutes. Rarely a problem, since I usually just straight shut down, but definitely something to note.

I can't play at all with Tiara on. It crashes immediately when I get to the character select screen. I don't have any personal custom mods on so I have no idea what it could be. Had them on last night, worked fine. Logged out for maint, logged on today, won't work :(

EDIT: I got auto logged off last night bcuz of maint. Could that have been what is causing it?

try removing character cache, \Documents\Mabinogi\Cache this sometimes happens when character data doesn't save correctly.

i'm not sure why it's taking you that long to log out.

Merlock I had that problem with one of the font mods. I deleted the font and it worked just fine, have since switched to a different font mod.

sometimes reinstalling the same font works, i'm unsure if it's a data packing problem or server download problem as of yet.

Hey.

How are you?

That's nice.

Do you happen to have a solution to the problem a majority of the players, at least that I've seen, on the forums, as well as I, are having with staying on Mabi?

I am assuming that it is a problem with my Hackshield/NexonGuard/etc... but I am unable to fix it no matter what I attempt. I try reinstalling the game and that leads to no avail, I make an attempt to install mods and that just gives me a Hackshield error and crash immediately as I start up, so I was wondering if you had a solution to this problem?

Sorry if I'm being vague, I put too much brain capacity in trying not to sound like a big ol' dumbo, and I can't speak the words-speaky.

Can you be a bit more descriptive? Also, try manually updating hackshield by using HSUpdate.exe in the HShield folder.

Well my problem is that after every 5 minutes of being in-game, I just up and crash.

I've tried all the solutions Nexon has provided, but I'm unable to fix it.

Specs?

No, it's not like that, my game up CLOSES after 5 minutes

No error message, no nothing.

There are quite a few posts on the official forums from people claiming the same thing happening.

I don't know how it works, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that it might be Windows automatically closing a program due to lack of memory.

Try running mabi with less programs running.

Panda, which maps are causing problems? The Mana Tunnel/Moongate/Worldmaps, or the exploration maps?
If the Mana Tunnel/Moongate/Worldmaps are causing trouble, please delete the folder in \Mabinogi\data\gfx\gui\worldmap_img\.
Then, use Data Packer to Remove Mods, and then close Data Packer, then open Data Packer, click Find Mods, and the click Modify. Then your mabi should no longer have the faulty world map mods.

And PLEASE reply telling us which it is, so shaggy can remove the problem from UOT.

(Shaggy, if the worldmaps prove to be an issue, I did include normal compressed versions, so you can just replace the modified ones with the normal ones in the next release)
