Nexon has recently updated Mabinogi to a 64 bit client. This update has broken many mods in memory patchers for the time being. The mod creators are working hard to essentially rebuild all mods from scratch, and this process will take some time. Please be patient, and stay tuned for more updates.

It's not at all difficult. Doesn't even require touching Tiara. Just compare the two files and see the differences between them. Of course, this doesn't work as well for long xmls.

Check file size.  If same size, jump to the bottom of the file.  Typically, as in not always, when the xml files get new entries, they are placed on the bottom.  Edits to existing entries is not new entries either.

All else fails, i believe there's a program or something, to compare text files.  I know someone recommended it to me once, but i do not recall much of anything about it.

Sorry, could you elaborate on this? What do you mean by jump the the bottom of the file? What are you supposed to update the files to? Which files specifically need to be updated?

i use WinMerge.
when any new content is added they usually add it to the end or near the bottom of the file, when comparing with winmerge you will see grey lines in the old file for missing lines and yellow/orange lines for which lines are different, as in previously modded or recently changed/translated by nexon.

Edit:
also many people are still using uo tiara 169 so i haven't been rushed to update it, as you can see with the chat on the download page.
the image above shows the 15 files that need updated or deleted (most of these won't cause crashes) if you are having problems until i do update.

Sorry, i just touched the topic under the assumption all readers knew everything i wanted about modding.

Check file size.  If same size, jump to the bottom of the file.  Typically, as in not always, when the xml files get new entries, they are placed on the bottom.

Basically what i originally expected, you'll check to see if an XML file needs updated, not actually expecting many people to update all these files by themself.

First step, you need to know which XML you want to double-check.  Typically the best way to check if a file will need updated, open the newest pack file/update in mabiunpack.  Most common problem is update to db files, so that is where you will start: mabiunpack->data/db.

Now i'll give you an example that applies to the most recent update.  When looking in the 172 pack file, you should see a charactercondition.xml file.  Now, leaving mabiunpack open in the background just to double-check, navigate to mabinogi/data/db and see if you have a charactercondition.xml in that folder.  If you do, that means nexon has updated this file, and if you do not remove or update the charactercondition.xml in your own mabi folder, then you will likely either be missing graphics/fx or the entire game will crash.  The double-checking will help keep you from accidentally deleting a mod you'd wish to keep.

I expect all this is covered in various and more detailed guides scattered around though, if i'm not clear or you just wish to learn more.

When you have time id really like the update. or access to a quick fix. i work and go to school so i have little time to game as is. i used to fix all my own Xml errors. and add / modify models to the game but due to life. i no longer have time. i was exstatic when i found out someone continued support for MoonShine and i very much apprishiate your work shaggy. so ill be waiting till there is a update or quick fix. id rather wait than take the time to do it at the moment. Thank You . keep up the Support mabi isnt the same without it.  8)  ;D

the quick fix would be to delete the files in your data folder (the 15 files at the top of the list in the image provided above)

The files that are most affected by updates are the itemdb.xm, race.xml, and propdb.xml along with their corresponding .txt counterparts right? I'm trying to updated my files as well

P.S.

After deleting those xml & txt files, some of the mobs i encounter get a "race.xxx.xml" or some kind of generic code ID as their name. what is associated with that?

devCAT likes to derp up on their files sometimes. Make sure that "Data\code\local" matches up with "Data\local" and "Data\code\xml" matches up with "Data\xml".

If they do and SOME monsters have the race.xxx.xml name then it's a derp on devCAT's part.

I was confused about this. Seemed very redundant and copypasta.

Edit: ummmm ok... I tried launching Mabi after making updates and now its just plain crashing; no hackshield, the client goes up, and poofs instantly afterwards

What I did prior:
Launched Tiara and installed the whole tiara folder into a separate drive (D: While Mabinogi was on E:)
Extracted xml file (Propdb, Itemdb, Race) + txt files (same + interface, standard) from original mabi using Mabiunpack (link here)
Compared in Notepad++
Made Changes Accordingly
Put back in db for .xml
local/code or local/xml for text as well as data/xml  for .txt files
Data packer

Narrow it down to specifically what files are causing you to crash. Only thing I can think of is Itemdb and Race not being correct where as propdb (to my knowledge) has little affect on playability.

uo tiara doesn't use itemdb.xml, it uses itemdb.english.txt in the \local\xml\ and \xml\ folders as to not cause crashes.

I did, it was the race.english.txt
I checked it again, and it looks like the original extracted from the package, only in different the modded words/translations -  and maybe breaks? What did I do wrong?

race.english.txt only mods two race names and doesn't cause crashes; however \data\db\race.xml would cause crashes if not removed or updated correctly.

i'm not sure what you did wrong, but i'll make time tonight to update to 172.

on an unrelated topic...the next version of uo tiara will be saving the installer's mod choices from your previous installation to the registry, i just need to write about 4,000 more lines of code...

That's the thing. I don't know how a text file can cause mabi to not want to launch. I didn't have race.xml my data folder, but I did add the text. Could that discrepancy cause the crash?

I also tried to mod the the propdb.xml, doing compare, and just modified Showname="false" to "true" (or w/e that line was) but it still didn't show when I logged in.

i couldn't say, i don't know what all files or which lines you've edited to know why your crashing, but as i said the ????.english.txt files do not cause crashes.

in any case you might as well solve the problem by downloading the latest uo tiara installer.

UO Tiara V173 now saves previous installation mod choices to the registry! (more details will be given in the next few days as the bugs are being fixed.)
However there may be a few bugs and 2/3rd's of UO Tiara has not yet be configured to Uninstall so for now just delete your data folder until i release 173B
